All tutors, employees, contractors and anyone acting on behalf of Tutor Today.
All Tutor Today online spaces, including our integrated online classroom and in-platform messaging.
Roles & Contacts
Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL):
safeguarding@tutortoday.co.uk
Deputy DSL (DDSL): James Miller
Emergency: If a child is in immediate danger, call 999.
Safer Recruitment & DBS Checks
UK-based tutors must complete: identity & right-to-work checks, Enhanced DBS (child workforce), references, and verification of experience.
A Barred List check is obtained where the role meets “regulated activity” thresholds.
We accept DBS certificates issued within the last 3 years or via the DBS Update Service (preferred).
Tutors who have lived/worked abroad for 12+ months in the last 5 years must provide an appropriate overseas police check.
Any disclosure is risk-assessed by the DSL before engagement.
Training & Conduct
All tutors/staff complete safeguarding (Level 1) at induction and refresh every 2 years, plus online-safety and Prevent awareness.
Tutors must follow our Code of Conduct: professional boundaries, no private contact off-platform, no social-media connections with students, and no assistance with cheating or exam malpractice.
Online Safety Standards
Use the Tutor Today classroom and in-platform messaging only.
Classroom links must not be shared. Waiting rooms/name checks are used where available.
Appropriate dress/backgrounds; no sharing of personal addresses or locations.
Breakout rooms with minors remain recorded; avoid being alone in an unrecorded breakout with a single child.
Parents/guardians should be reachable during under-18 sessions and provide a safe learning environment at home.
Lesson Recordings
Lessons may be recorded (audio/video, whiteboard, chat) for safeguarding, quality and learning review, as explained in our Privacy Policy.
Recordings may be made available to the student, their parent/guardian, the tutor, and authorised staff.
You must not download, screen-record or share recordings externally.
How to Report a Concern
1. Emergency? Call 999.
2. Otherwise: Contact the DSL at safeguarding@tutortoday.co.uk (or use “Report a Safeguarding Concern” in your account).
3. Share what happened (who/what/when/where). Do not investigate yourself or promise confidentiality—explain you may need to share information to keep the child safe.
What we do next
The DSL assesses risk immediately, may pause access where needed, and will refer to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO), Children’s Social Care or Police where appropriate.
Parents/guardians are informed unless doing so would increase risk.
We keep a secure record of concerns, actions and outcomes.
Allegations About Tutors/Staff
Allegations that an adult working with children may have harmed a child, committed an offence, or poses a risk are referred without delay to the LADO.
The tutor/staff member may be suspended pending outcome. We cooperate fully with statutory agencies and follow their guidance.
Prevent & Harmful Online Content
We are alert to signs of radicalisation and other online harms (bullying, grooming, sexting, hate content, self-harm indicators). Concerns are escalated to the DSL for possible referral (e.g., to Channel).
Data Protection
Safeguarding data is handled under UK GDPR/DPA 2018 with strict access controls and retention schedules. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Review
This policy is reviewed annually or sooner after any incident or material change. The latest version is always available on this page.
